چکیده

We have proposed a three-parameter renewal approximation to analyze splitting and superposition of autocorrelated processes. We define the index of dispersion for counts of an ordinary process used in a new and more accurate technique to estimate the third parameter. Then, we express this newly defined index of dispersion for the superposition in terms of the ordinary as well as the stationary indices of dispersion of the originally autocorrelated component processes. Hence, even if the superposition data is not observable, as long as sufficient information exists on component processes, the parameters of the proposed renewal approximation can be estimated accurately. The accurate renewal approximation of a general process helps sustain accuracy if it is split, by-passing the need to sample from branched processes. We have tested the impact of our approximation on the accuracy of the mean waiting time, which compared favorably with simulation results of the original systems.

Analysis of M/G/ 1 queueing model with state dependent arrival and vacation

This investigation deals with single server queueing system wherein the arrival of the units follow Poisson process with varying arrival rates in different states and the service time of the units is arbitrary (general) distributed. The server may take a vacation of a fixed duration or may continue to be available in the system for next service. Using the probability argument, we construct the ...

Approximate Model for Merging Markovian Arrival Processes

Traffic-based decomposition models encompass procedures required for modelling of the basic network operations of superposition, departure and splitting, arising due to the common sharing of the resources and routing decisions taking place in packetswitched networks. It is desirable to study such models for Markovian Arrival Processes (MAPs), as these processes are able to match correlations an...

Higher order approximations for the single server queue with splitting, merging and feedback

The performance evaluation of many modern communication and manufacturing systems has been made possible by modeling them as queueing networks. Due to the limitations of exact algorithms to analyze general queueing networks, researchers have been focusing on developing approximations. Most of the approximations are lower order approximations in the sense that only a few parameters of the intera...

Staffing a Service System with Non-poisson Nonstationary Arrivals

Motivated by non-Poisson stochastic variability found in service system arrival data, we extend established service system staffing algorithms using the square-root staffing formula to allow for non-Poisson arrival processes. We develop a general model of the non-Poisson nonstationary arrival process that includes as a special case the nonstationary Cox process (a modification of a Poisson proc...
